Uk taxes

Topic summary

A 16-year-old in London has set up a Shopify store using their mother’s bank details to receive payments. They are seeking guidance on two key tax questions:

Main concerns:

  • Whether they need to pay taxes on current earnings from the store
  • What consequences they might face if they don’t pay taxes

Additional complexity:

  • They plan to sell internationally, which may introduce further tax considerations

The discussion remains open with no responses yet. The setup involving a parent’s bank account while operating as a minor likely has implications for tax registration, income reporting, and potential VAT obligations that need clarification.

Hi ,

So, I live in the UK (London) and I have a shopify store that I recently set up , I’m 16 years old but I have my mums Bank details in the account so her card is getting the payouts, Do I need to pay any tax on the money I earn as of now and what happens if I don’t?

I do also plan on selling internationally which just complicates it even more.

Thank you
