Unable to display multiple stores on separate tabs on one computer

Hello, we have two stores and up until just recently we were able to have several separate tabs open in Chrome with various pages of the two different stores at the same time, just as you would expect. The last few weeks this has changed to being unable to have more than one of the stores showing on the same computer, its the same over all of our machines, if we open one store up, when we go back to the original store that was open we’re faced with login page, once we log in and open that store up, the other store will show the login page, it is extremely frustrating, can anyone help please?

All the machines have been cleared of caches, rebooted etc. but it makes no difference. We did have this same issue a couple of years ago b

Same situation I’m handling 4 store and its really frustrating to keep on logging in every time I switch stores. The recovery codes expires on the same day too. This shopify update is really not user friendly and it sucks!

Thanks for contributing, I was beginning to think it was just us… I’m currently trying to get Shopify support to take this seriously but it is very hard work communicating with them and the people I’ve been in touch with are either really thick or can’t translate what I write. It’s like trying to push it forward a millimetre at a time.

Finally a response from Shopify:

I understand that you are not being able to switch between different Shopify stores as you did previously. Due to a recent security update, you can now switch between multiple Shopify stores as long as they are associated with the same email address.

This means that in order to now access all stores from the same computer without having to log in and out the whole time I have to change the email address that the stores are associated with to be the same. It beggars belief that for such a major change Shopify couldn’t be bothered to even have the decency to advise their customers!

Having spent many further hours attempting to get any sense out of Shopify ‘support’ as it is impossible to set up two accounts with the same email address, we finally have an admission, see below. For anyone that hasn’t had the misfortune to get involved with Shopify ‘support’, a hard learned word of advice; all you will get is either a bot or a brain-dead minion coming back to you with snippets out of their FAQs, don’t be fooled into thinking that you are getting quality advice, you are just getting a snippet of something that matches with your query text. Knowing this will save you a lot of time actually taking the advice as gospel and going in and out of dead-end rabbit holes!

Shopify’s final response: Currently I have read previous threads and you mentioned that you wanted to just switch stores just by clicking the stores within the admin however after the Summer Edition was released, there are certain changes that were included in the store making you unable to select just the way it was before.

Our alternative for this is yet to be determined till the next update which you too will be emailed. For now, we would still have to manually login to manage two stores as we cannot use one email for two stores.

So that’s it, we changed it without bothering to advise you, it’s causing you a lot of wasted time and frustration but there’s nothing that you can do until we possibly come up with a fix. Great.
