Unable to edit by region - Dawn

Topic summary

  • Issue: In one store using the Dawn theme, the market/region dropdown is missing in the Theme Editor, preventing market-specific homepage edits. A second store with a paid theme shows the dropdown and allows regional customization.

  • Conflicting views: One response says Dawn lacks a native “batch homepage editor” for markets and suggests using Liquid (Shopify’s templating language) to conditionally show/hide sections by market or a geo-targeting app. Another response asserts the market selector in the Theme Editor is theme-agnostic and should appear if Shopify Markets (Shopify’s multi-region selling feature) is properly configured, noting even older themes display it.

  • Troubleshooting advised: Ensure Shopify Markets are added/enabled for the relevant regions in that specific store. Confirm you have sufficient permissions to manage Markets and that you’re logged into the correct store/account. Verify whether the comparison involves two different stores, which may have different Markets setups.

  • Status: Unresolved. Screenshots are central, showing the dropdown present in one setup and absent in the Dawn setup. Open question remains whether the absence is a Dawn limitation or a store configuration/permissions issue.

I’m having issues with my theme DAWN. I have two websites and I’ve set both up in the same way with their markets, regions etc.. I’d like to be able to edit my home page depending on which market I’m selling to (USA, EU etc..)
On one of my websites I have a purchased theme and it allows me to edit my website based on region in the customize theme tab. I’ve read that is it possible to do the same wtih the DAWN theme but it isn’t giving me the option in the customize tab.
Am I missing something, is there anything I need to do in order to have this dropdown menu?

Hi @RMN05

Dawn doesn’t include a batch homepage editor for specific markets, like some paid themes do. You can hide or show sections for a visitor’s country or market using Liquid like similar functionality as you can install a geo-targeting app to show different content for each region without changing core theme files.

Hi @RMN05
On my store the Dawn works normally.
Have you try to add the market for your store?

Not quite clear – is it happening in the same store and paid theme shows market selector while Dawn does not.
This, frankly, sounds hardly possible.
Whether market selector is shown in “Edit theme” does not depend on the theme itself – even older themes which are not even Shopify 2.0 has this selector shown.

Or it happens in different stores, where one has paid theme and market selector and another store has Dawn and no market selector?
This is quite possible and means that either you have different market configurations in these stores;
or, in the store where you have no market selector, you do not have permissions to configure markets.
Maybe you have several logins and use a different one unintentionally.
