We have 2 shopify stores and until recently I could be logged into both on Chrome - one in each tab of the same browser window.
I can no longer do this and have to log out of one before I can log into the other.
Shopify support chat could only recommend having another browser open in incognito mode for the 2nd store but this really slows down my workflow across the 2 sites.
Is anyone else having this issue and been able to solve it?
Chat support were completely unhelpful at finding another solution (the agent actually tried to sell me on a marketing tool in the middle of the chat…)
It appears that there might be a specific issue or change that is preventing you from simultaneously logging into two different Shopify stores in separate tabs of the same Chrome browser window.
To further troubleshoot the issue, I recommend the following steps:
Clear Cache and Cookies: Clear the cache and cookies of your browser. This helps ensure that any conflicting or outdated data is removed. After clearing the cache and cookies, close and reopen the browser.
Disable Extensions: Temporarily disable any browser extensions or add-ons that might be interfering with the login process. Some extensions, particularly those related to privacy or security, can affect how websites handle cookies and sessions.
Try Incognito Mode: While you mentioned that using incognito mode for the second store slows down your workflow, it can help determine if the issue is related to your browser configuration or extensions. Open an incognito window and attempt to log in to one store while keeping the other store logged in the regular browsing window. If it works in incognito mode, it suggests that there may be an extension or browser configuration causing the problem.
Test with Different Browsers: Install and test other browsers on your computer, such as Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge. Try logging into each store in separate tabs within different browsers to see if the issue persists across different browser applications. This will help identify if the problem is specific to Chrome or if it affects multiple browsers.
Contact Shopify Support Again: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, reach out to Shopify support again. Provide them with detailed information about the problem and the troubleshooting steps you have already taken. They may be able to provide further insights or investigate if there have been any recent changes or updates that could be causing the issue.
By following these steps, you should be able to determine the cause of the problem and find a suitable solution to log into both of your Shopify stores simultaneously in separate tabs of the same browser window.I hope this is very helpful information for you.
Thanks for the reply but as per my post I am looking for a solution that does not involve separate browsers etc. Just want it to work the way it used to!
I have the same issue, i also use chrome and it has just started this week. I think it may be something to do with a chrome update that happened last week . it is a pain having to re log in all the time. if i find a solution, i will post here
Just noticed the same thing happening on a new PC using Edge browser, I have 3 different shops that we manage and even though I have individually signed into each of them with a different admin account, I am constantly being forced to choose user and login again every time I switch tabs to see the other shop.
Same issue I have 4 stores and I can no longer have all 4 open. As soon as I swap to another store it boots me out and takes multiple clicks to get back in. Really slowing down daily productivity. Please update if anyone finds the answer
I have found a solution that has worked for me.
I have 2 Shopify accounts each with a different email under the store owner.
So under one of my accounts I went into Settings > Users and permissions and under Add staff I have added myself again, using the email account I use as the Store Owner for my other shopify store. Selected permissions for everything. and then I had to accept the invitation via email.
After logging out of the accounts and relogging back in using the new email, My two bookmarks I have for each store, I can now click on and I switch between shops without having to log in and out of.
This is what I did as a workaround but it only works for people that can add the same email address (or user account) to different shops and is not going to work for all situations.
If you have different user accounts for different shops (which is very common) and you don’t have extra accounts you can add to each shop (also very common as we are limited unless you pay more for a higher tier) , then this problem is going to persist.
It would be good to know why Shopify implemented this change, I didn’t find any mention of it in any documentation.
