Dear Support,
I see this topic is since years, but I just started using shopify and stripe nowadays. After I successfully connected stripe to shopify and everything is set, when I try to pay with credit card I got the following message: “Payment transaction failed. Try again or choose another payment method.”
I tried to find answer in Q/A part of shopify and/or stripe’s pages, but I found only questions and no clear answers. Could you please check my account and help me what to change to be able to use credit card payment?

I understand that you have added Stripe as a payment gateway on your store, and you are seeing some errors in your checkout when trying to place an order and pay with a credit card.
I would like to firstly clarify that Stripe is external to Shopify, and as such we are not in a position to check your account with them and provide Stripe specific support. However, I would be happy to try my best to help you out here, and suggest ways you could potentially resolve this!
- I would suggest logging in to your Stripe account, and verifying that all looks OK there, and that there are no obvious account issues or items that need attention. Ensure that your Stripe account is fully verified and in good working order. Depending on your account standing, you may need to make any necessary updates in your Stripe login area or dashboard.
- On Shopify, have a look at your payment settings. Head to the Settings > Payments section of your admin and verify that the Stripe gateway setup is accurate and up-to-date. Double-check any credentials that you entered when setting this up, and make sure all looks OK and there’s no error messages. Feel free to refer to our help center information about setting up third-party payment gateways here.
- Confirm that the payment information you are entering in your own checkout is correct. Check that you (or your customer) is entering all payment information accurately. A small typo in a credit card number or expiration date can cause a payment transaction to fail, and may show an error such as this. If possible, also test using another card to rule out any issues arising from the card/bank itself.
- If none of the above helps to resolve this, then it would be a good idea to contact Stripe support directly for further assistance. You can try using this page here to get in touch with their support team, and they should be able to advise on any next steps you can try to resolve this.
