Unable to upload csv file to store

Hey all,

I would like to build my store online and import all the products we currently sell via a csv file.

I am using a Mac but cannot seem to figure out this csv file. I added some sample products to the csv I made with file locations of photos of those products that are on my computer.

Could you please help me figure out how this csv works so I can upload the file?

Thank you a lot in advance!

Hi @teron ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with using CSV files, to ensure this gets resolved.

To share some insight, CSV files must follow a specific format to be successfully uploaded into the Shopify admin. Due to this, I encourage you to check out our Sample CSV File as it can be used as a template when creating your own. It outlines all of the mandatory columns, rows, and fields that are required in order to be successfully uploaded. For more information on CSV Files, I recommend checking out our Using CSV Files documentation for further details.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hi!

Thank you for your reply.

I am working on my csv table and was wondering if I can import images from my computer. Can I put the location of a file in the Image Src tab? Should the file be in my iCloud (using a Mac) for the upload to work, as currently only the example products with example photos from the shopify csv draft are uploaded.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Hi @teron ,

Thank you for the prompt response! Along with products and variants, images also follow a specific format in order to be successfully imported through a CSV file. As a CSV file can only contain text, you will need to make sure all product images are available on an existing website. Then those URLs can be used during the CSV file importing process.

As you’ve mentioned those images are saved on your computer, you will want to upload them to your Shopify store or to another image hosting service prior to importing the CSV file. This will then allow you to copy the URL link into the CSV and successfully complete the upload. For more information on adding images, you can check out our Preparing Images For CSV Files documentation as it touches on this further.
