We are currently in the process of regaining access to our Shopify store, PDMX Jeans. This has been a challenging experience, and we want to share some lessons learned to help others avoid similar situations.

Lessons Learned1. Always Use 2FA: Anyone who needs access to your store should have their own account with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled.

  1. Avoid Shared Accounts: If you have multiple team members, do not share a single account out of convenience or laziness. Each person should have their own credentials.
  2. Be Careful with Passwords: If anyone shares a password through email, WhatsApp, or other platforms, reset the password immediately and enable 2FA to secure the account.

Things to Know About Shopify- If your account is compromised, you will need to work with Shopify Account Security, but note that they do NOT work weekends.

  • If the issue happens on a Friday, like it did for us, you will likely spend the entire weekend waiting for updates.

We at PDMX Jeans find this policy unacceptable and will advocate for Shopify to reconsider. Businesses depend on timely access to their accounts, and the absence of weekend support for Account Security can be devastating. While Shopify has already cut costs by removing phone support, we strongly believe there should be 24/7 Account Security assistance to ensure business continuity.

Documents You Will Need for Verification

If you ever face this issue, here’s what you’ll need to speed up the verification process:

  1. Business License or Formation Document: In our case, this was our Acta Constitutiva in Mexico. The name on the Shopify account and the government document must match.
  2. Shopify Payment Code: You will need the 9-digit payment code from your last Shopify bill.
  3. Owner’s Identification: A front copy of the store owner’s official ID. The name on the ID must match the government document and Shopify account.
  4. Physical Address: Provide the physical address of the store for verification purposes.

We hope this information helps other Shopify store owners avoid the challenges we faced. Preparation and proper documentation are key to resolving account issues efficiently. If Shopify addresses its weekend support gap, it could prevent unnecessary stress for business owners.
