Update to most recent version of Forge?

Hello,

I have a store that was built on the Forge theme, version 2.2.0. I paid to have it custom built to essentially be a proof of concept for my business. The business has done well but I know my site needs improvement, from a functionality, aesthetic, and SEO perspective. How much of a process is it to get the store up to the most recent version of Forge (5.0.0) and it is worth it? Or am I better off just having work done to the existing version of the site?

My business overall is high ticket sales, and I do have a small showroom but 40% of my sales come from all over the country via eComm. I have surpassed the $1mm in sales mark over the last year but my eCommerce conversion rates are horrible and I am only averaging around 120 site visitors per day.

Thanks!

Just stick to the site. Don’t overthink. Get the sales first. You can always redesign later. Don’t overcomplicate.

My business has done over 1 million in sales in the last year, it is a combination of in-store and eComm but prob 40% comes from eComm. I have a high close rate of people who come in my store, but my conversion rate online is horrible.

Hi @MSchaffer30 :waving_hand: This depends on the process used to make the changes to the original theme and how drastic the differences are between the theme versions.

A migration can be easier If you kept an original unmodified version of the theme, or used version control like the github integration , and kept track of the additions as features or code changes.

If you’ve get no log or backups then it can be complicate to figure out what things were changes and which were features already in a theme.

etc etc

In some cases it can be better to just redo the software development since you now have a better understanding of the requirements and previous outcomes or bugs.

greenfield vs brownfield development.

ALWAYS please provide context, examples: store url, theme name, post url(s) , or any further detail in ALL correspondence.

You generally want some sort of analytics, heatmaps, a/b testing that connects conversion rate problems with the theme or the features you added to the theme.

While also having a/b testing on things like content, or customer feedback to avoid chasing ghosts.

Update the current existing site. Remove areas where no impacts are made. Create new product templates instead of moving to a new theme.
You already have a good sales. Invest now in making you site minimalistic and more features on how to convert fast. Less is more and less is bold.
Your mind should be on users land on the homepage → How to sell what i’m offering quick? and how to gain trusts fast (I know fast and trust doesn’t go hand in hand but with right UI/UX it does go).
→ Users land on PDP → Give discounts, give bundle discounts, → Clear titles, descriptions, Image → Add to cart.
No /cart page but a cart drawer. After that Shopify takes over with checkout.
That’s the ultimate goal.
Just redesign the homepage, pdp page and cart drawer. No need to overthink because that’s where 90% of your users spend the most time.
