Hi.
I am trying to update Unavailable QTY of a variant by API but i can’t find a solution. Is this possible? If Yes, than how?
Main topic: whether the “Unavailable QTY” for a product variant can be updated via API.
Key clarification: Unavailable inventory = units reserved for draft orders or set aside by apps/other holds (e.g., damaged, QC, safety stock). According to a support response, this value is not directly adjustable via the API.
Open questions raised: If apps can “set aside” inventory, what mechanism do they use? Is there an API endpoint or workflow that affects Unavailable QTY indirectly (e.g., via reservations or holds)? Participants ask for specifics, suggesting a contradiction between “set aside by apps” and “not adjustable via API.”
Current outcome: No concrete method provided to update Unavailable QTY via API. The thread remains unresolved, with requests for clarification on how apps influence this field.
Notes: A screenshot was shared showing the Unavailable quantity in the admin UI, reinforcing what field is being discussed.

Hey @jayeshbhatia
Unavailable inventory refers to the number of units that are reserved for draft orders, set aside by apps, or other inventory hold reasons, such as damaged, quality control, or safety stock. This isn’t directly adjustable via the API.
So apps just adjust the unavailable count through osmosis? Or do apps use the API to adjust that number?
Similar to SKULabs questions. You say “..reserved for draft orders, set aside by apps, or other inventory hold reasons, such as damaged..”. How do apps “set it aside”? I imagine it has to be through API access, no?
