we have a normal search bar on our site now but its not great, customers often complain they cant find things and before when typing it used to show what you were searching for underneath before entering but thats stopped. Is there an upgrade or app we can add on to improve this?
Hi,
This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.
It sounds like your current search bar is falling short in providing a satisfactory user experience. Customers’ inability to find products efficiently can significantly impact your sales.
Potential Solutions:
-
Implement a More Powerful Search Engine:
- Dedicated E-commerce Search Solutions: Consider platforms like Algolia, Elastic, or Solr, designed specifically for e-commerce search. They offer features like autocomplete, synonyms, and typo tolerance.
- Custom Development: If you have technical expertise, you can develop a custom search solution tailored to your specific needs.
-
Enhance Search Functionality:
- Autocomplete: Implement autocomplete suggestions to guide users as they type.
- Synonyms and Related Terms: Ensure your search engine can understand synonyms and related terms.
- Typo Tolerance: Allow for minor typos and misspellings.
- Faceting: Provide filters for categories, brands, price ranges, and other attributes.
-
Optimize Product Data:
- Accurate and Consistent Data: Ensure your product data is accurate, consistent, and well-structured.
- Keyword Optimization: Use relevant keywords in product titles, descriptions, and tags.
Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.
Best regards,
Richard | PageFly
Hi @UKBiker
Adding a powerful third-party search app can significantly enhance your store’s search functionality. An effective search should include features like auto-suggest, typo tolerance, and instant results to help customers quickly find what they’re looking for and refine their searches as needed.
There are several popular search apps on Shopify that offer these features, such as AI Search & Filter, Klevu, Searchspring, and Fast Simon AI Search & Filters. Besides those features, these apps often include merchandising rules to help you automatically arrange product order on the search results page based on business metrics. For example, you can prioritize products on sale or promote certain vendors to a higher ranking.
They also offer a Search Synonym feature, which allows you to define equivalent words and phrases. For instance, you could set it so that “sneakers” and “trainers” are treated as the same thing, ensuring users searching for one will still find relevant results, even if the products are labeled differently.
