UPS Ground Saver

I am trying to add UPS Ground Saver as a cheaper shipping option for my customers, but it never appears at checkout. If it matters, I am using the pre-negotiated UPS rates, not rates offered by Shopify. I have already verified that ground saver is enabled for all the relevant shipping profiles, and that the default package is not one of the express options. Additionally, the packages are small and do not exceed 3lbs. Any ideas as to why the UPS Ground Saver option is not appearing at checkout? Thanks.

Hi @rd12341,
UPS Ground Saver can be tricky with Shopify, especially when using pre-negotiated rates. Even if it’s enabled, Shopify may not display it at checkout if the UPS API doesn’t return it based on the destination, package dimensions, or other criteria. We’ve helped others with this setup and can walk you through checking and adjusting the settings to get it working properly. Let us know if you’d like guidance!

Best,
Samuel.

Thanks for sharing the issue. @rd12341
UPS Ground Saver can be tricky to get working, especially when using pre-negotiated rates directly from UPS. A few key things to double-check:

  1. Ground Saver eligibility – It only works for lightweight packages under 1 lb (not 3 lbs), unless you’re using a special contract. If your packages are over that limit, UPS may exclude it silently.

  2. Shipping zones – Ground Saver isn’t available in all U.S. regions or for certain destination types like PO Boxes. Double-check the zones in your shipping profile.

  3. Rate visibility – Since you’re using negotiated rates, UPS might not return all services at checkout if they’re not explicitly enabled on your UPS account. You may need to contact your UPS rep and request Ground Saver to be added as a returnable service.

  4. Shopify limitations – Sometimes Shopify doesn’t pull third-party discounted services correctly unless you use an app like ShipperHQ or Advanced Shipping Rules to handle the logic.
