Urgent Action Required: Potential Permanent Deactivation of Your Shopify Store

Topic summary

A merchant received a suspicious email claiming their Shopify store faces permanent deactivation due to inactivity since December 2023. The email requests an appeal and includes concerning signs like a Gmail reply address.

Key Red Flags:

  • Reply address is Gmail, not an official Shopify domain
  • Threatens deactivation for dormant stores
  • Requests detailed appeal information

Community Confirmation:

  • Shopify Community Manager confirmed this is a scam/spam email
  • Multiple merchants reported receiving identical messages today
  • Likely targeting new store owners from a compromised email database

Recommended Action:
Merchants should verify any suspicious Shopify-related emails directly through official support at help.shopify.com rather than responding to the sender. Do not provide any information to these spammers.

If you believe that your store should not be deactivated, we encourage you to file an appeal with our support team. Please provide detailed reasons for the inactivity on your store, and our team will review your case promptly.

Hi @DSA1 . You can check the email address from where the email in sent.

You can also verify it by talking to shopify support.

Today, someone else also wrote similar kind of issue that you’re facing.

Hi @DSA1 I received such an email as well today! I came here to confirm the credibility of that email as well.
The @TyW community manager’s response seems satisfactory that they are spammers.

I guess the spammers got their hands on new store email database where they are sending such emails to new account owners.
