I am writing this out of pure desperation as a merchant. My store has been completely locked down for 5 days due to a mistaken account recovery reset.
-
The Issue: I cannot access my admin dashboard, but customers can still place orders.
-
The Impact: Customers are being charged, but I am physically blocked by Shopify from fulfilling their orders or processing refunds. My brand is currently being destroyed on social media for a situation I cannot fix.
-
The Financial Risk: I am currently holding thousands of dollars in consumer funds with no path to fulfillment. I am rapidly approaching the threshold where I will have to advise all customers to initiate mass Chargebacks through Shopify Payments, which will directly impact Shopify’s standing as the Merchant of Record.
-
Current Status: Ticket #61c0423f-9072-4689-ad54-0994ee8edd9e is completely stagnant. Front-line support emails just tell me that “the security team is working on it,” but I have zero human communication or timeline.
My store URL is: wallunitstogo.com
I’d be grateful for any suggestions on how to get Shopify to review my access.
Thanks
This sounds incredibly stressful, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this.
A few things that have worked for others in similar Shopify lockout situations:
Escalate beyond front-line support. Reply to your ticket and explicitly use the words ‘financial harm’ and ‘chargeback risk.’ These are flagged phrases that can push your ticket to a senior team.
Try the live chat route. Even if you can’t access your admin, go to shopify.com/support directly from a browser and start a chat as a non-logged-in user. Explain you’re locked out and have an open ticket, ask to be transferred to the Trust & Safety or Account Security team specifically.
Post on Shopify’s Twitter/X. @ShopifySupport on X often responds faster than tickets when a post gets traction. Keep it factual, mention your ticket number, and use the word ‘urgent.’
Document everything now. Screenshot every customer complaint, every support email, every timestamp. If this escalates to a legal or chargeback dispute, you’ll need the paper trail.
Hope you get this resolved quickly, nobody should be in this position.
Why did you remove my post? I have an inability to operate my store and are desparate for help? Why is this not worthy of finding someone who can help?
Your solution to my trying to get help to access my store is to hide so no one can help? Why would you do that?
First and foremost, this is not Shopify Support. This is a public forum made up primarily of merchants, partners, and developers. Shopify Staff rarely engage here directly anymore, so nobody here can actually restore account access or intervene.
At this point, your only real avenue is continuing through Shopify Support.
For the future, and any potential merchant: Shopify account security and recovery settings should be treated seriously. Merchants should set up multiple backup login methods, recovery options. Shopify has many recovery methods available. Don’t wait. Set it up so this doesn’t happen again.
As for the hidden replies, both accounts were created in the last day and were likely just spam. That part is probably unrelated to your actual account issue.
Hello @HELP_WallUnitsToGo
That sounds so hard to do, particularly now with orders still coming in and you stillcan’t get to fulfillment. There is one thing you can still do to partially mitigate the impact by pausing traffic sources you control (Meta, Google Ads, email blasts, social run campaigns, to slow down the inflow of orders) until access is regained.
If you still have access to your domain or storefront theme, you might also publish a temporary message about slowed fulfillment to reduce customer frustration and chargebacks.
In account-recovery cases, persistence and responding to the same ticket thread is usually more successful than opening new requests.
@HELP_WallUnitsToGo recommend to connect with Shopify direct support - support@shopify.com
Hi,
Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. I was told by a Shopify support representative to see if the community had any ideas. That’s why I asked about it. I didn’t ask for a fix. I asked for a vehicle that could help potentially reach an audience at Shopify that would expedite or give me some way to start a recovery of some kind. Right now, it’s been radio silence.
Yes, in the future, now that I know what account recovery involves, I will be more prepared. My expectation was entirely different as to what recovery was all about after our cyber attack.
Thanks again.
Thanks so much for this suggestion. We aren’t running ads at all. They’re 100% cut, but lots of orders come in despite that. Further, existing customers need replacement parts, refunds, etc. We’ve thought about turning off the store altogether by putting up a landing page at the domain that says that we’re temporarily out of business, but I just don’t know which would hurt the brand more. We’re trying to communicate with people that have placed orders and handle the damage that way, but we’re not sure exactly if that’s a better way to go either. TBD
Thank you. Yes, in order to chat with support, you need a store. We opened another store just to get access to chat. When you talk to the support people there, it’s pretty clear that they don’t really have a way to communicate with the security team. They can’t directly contact them. The only way to contact the security team is to reply to the email you get when you initiate account recovery. We’ve done that every day for seven days straight and don’t receive even an acknowledgement that an email was sent from our side.
I am facing the same situation here, it has been two weeks, still telling me to wait the email, but no email at all, even not in Spam.
