Urgent: PayPal holding my funds & rude support — anyone else facing this?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share what I’ve been going through with PayPal lately because it feels extremely unfair and I’m hoping to hear if other Shopify sellers have faced the same.

PayPal has been holding my business funds without any clear reason. When I contacted their support, the experience was shocking — the representatives were extremely rude and dismissive, almost like they are bullying small business owners instead of helping us.

This is not just an inconvenience, it feels like PayPal is using its power to hold sellers’ funds at ransom, leaving us stuck and unable to operate normally. I can’t be the only one who feels this system is broken.

Has anyone else here experienced these fund holds or the rude/unprofessional behavior from PayPal support? How did you deal with it? Did you find any workaround or alternative payment solution that actually treats sellers fairly?

I strongly believe there’s a need for a more ethical alternative to PayPal that respects business owners instead of making us feel trapped.

Looking forward to your insights and experiences :folded_hands:

Yeah, I feel you  they’re strict in that sense. If you’re a newly registered business (or considered new by their criteria, I guess) you’ll get your funds held until you reach:

  • Received 10 transactions
  • Received 200.00 USD in TPV
  • Have no disputes for 60 days
  • Confirmed identity (twice or thrice even) or phone number

They’ve been around long enough to be “sophisticated” at filtering threats or suspicious activity that sometimes an already established business gets flagged too.

Alternatives depend on where you live and your target markets. I mostly handle SEA clients and use their native payment gateways.

Hi there @CleoHome sorry for the inconveniences you’re facing with them, have you tried getting in touch with their customer support there or is it too inactive? Also, moving forward there are multiple Shopify payment gateways for every country so you shouldn’t be reluctant in switching systems to one that will fit your needs and business better to be honest.
