Urgently tax compliance issue

I’ve had an unresolved tax issue for over 5 weeks (Ticket #60822928). Shopify is overcharging customers on non-taxable items, and the Tax Team has not responded despite multiple follow-ups. I’ve escalated through chat support but still have no resolution. Can a Shopify staff member please intervene and ensure this case is handled? THIS IS AN URGENT TAX COMPLIANCE ISSUE.

That’s really frustrating. Since this is a tax compliance issue and already escalated, I recommend tagging @Shopify Support here for visibility and requesting a direct follow-up from the Tax Team. They should prioritize this given the urgency.

Any tips on how to talk to a live real person on Support? I just want to talk to someone on the phone.

You can immediately work around this by adding a manual tax override for the product(s) or area you know it to be broken for. In your Shopify admin, navigate to Settings → Taxes → Tax Overrides, and enter the correct rate or exemption for New Jersey. This is to be compliant while we wait for Shopify’s team to fix.
