Using cart and checkout validation api to prevent bots to create fake accounts

Hello,

We recently updated our subscription to Shopify plus and we are trying to use the cart and checkout validation api to prevent bots to create fake accounts during the check out process. We created a Shopify function and we are verifying whether the customer is null, if so, we are pushing an error to prevent the process to complete and so the fake account to be created. However, it is not working. Has anybody tried something similar?

If you guys are on Shopify Plus you can enable the spam protection feature
Online Store > Preferences > Scroll to bottom - Spam > Enable and Save
