Using second product picture for google merchant center

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to let the google sales channel(google merchants center) using the second picture of a product instead of the first one?

Thank you in advance

If your data feed solution allows this yes. Otherwise no.

For example if you use datafeedwatch, you can choose the second image as your primary image. Any other tool such as the free one, multi google shopping feed, or symprosis, no you can not.

The easy fix however, is to use a supplement feed and overwrite the primary data with different image URLs. More info: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7439058?hl=en

Thank you for your response. We’ll check this APP solution

Hi, I am using Socialhead to generate my feed for Google. Unfortunately, the image I want Google to display in its shopping network is the image I want to appear as a second image on my website. I see that you indicate you may have a solution to this. Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks

Yes, the solution is to use a supplement feed. How to set it up is explained here: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7439058?hl=en

OP is inquiring about the Google Sales Channel for Shopify, and so the initial portion of your response is not relevant. The second part of your reply regarding using a supplemental feed is a valid solution, however.

*I recognize this is an old thread but I am making this reply for other users who are coming to this thread for info.

@Mas2021 Even though this is a very old thread I thought I’d give an idea in case others have the same need.

You can do this using feed rules within the Google Merchant Centre.
You can create a rule that will replace the image_link with the first piece of the additional_image_link (the part before the first comma separator). Make sure that you then remove that image from the additional_image_links and optionally place the original image_link value into additional_image_links so you don’t lose it.

They’re not going to be easy rules to apply within the GMC but it is possible and it does allow you to test before activating but it is possible to do this without a feed platform. I wouldn’t recommend running too many rules through GMC as they can be difficult to debug should anything go wrong but if this is the only change you want to make it should be fine.

(You can currently find these rules under Data Sources > Your Data Source > Attribute Rules. If you don’t see it you may need to enable Advanced data source management under Add-Ons)
