Using Translation Apps for multi-language webshops

Topic summary

Migration to Shopify for multiple European-language storefronts with existing translations. The core question: why a translation app is needed to handle navigation menus when content is already translated.

One reply suggests using Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app, which supports localization of URLs and navigation menus, implying no need for a third-party translation app.

Update: The developer proposes using the third-party Globo Mega Menu to build the navigation. Its free tier does not support multiple languages, requiring a paid upgrade for multilingual menus. Screenshots were provided to illustrate this limitation.

Key distinction: Translate & Adapt handles localization (including menus) natively, while Globo Mega Menu is a separate menu-building app whose multilingual capability is a paid feature. The necessity of Globo (versus native Shopify menus + Translate & Adapt) remains the main decision point.

Status: Unresolved. Action item is a developer explanation for why a dedicated menu app is needed instead of Shopify’s native menus with Translate & Adapt.

We are in the process of transiting to Shopify platform with several European language WebShops.

The sites URL are as follows.

On our current Magento platforms, we don’t require any 3rd-party extension for having multiple languages.

We already have the translated language content from menu to text on the webpages. So we don’t see the need to use apps to provide on-the-fly translation.

Anyone can help me to understand why our developer state that for menu navigation, we have to use an translation app?

When you say your developer is recommending an app, is it Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app or a different one?

The free Translate & Adapt app enables you to localize the URLs of your pages, products, etc. as well as the navigation menus. You shouldn’t need a 3rd-party app/extension to do this.

Developer propose Globo Mega Menu used to create the Navigation Menu (Screenshot below), and it does not support the multiple languages in the free version and thus requires an upgrade to the paid version.
I awaiting for a reply from Developer why the need for another app to create navigation menu?
