Hello everyone,
we’re using a paid theme (Release by DigiFist https://themes.shopify.com/themes/release/styles/release), and while the variants are displayed as buttons (e.g. for color and size), clicking them doesn’t actually update the selected product variant.
We’re not sure how to set it up so that:
- The selected color updates the product images
- The correct variant is selected and added to the cart
We’re relatively new to Shopify and didn’t realize this functionality wasn’t included in the theme. Now we’re preparing for a store launch and urgently need to get this working.
Ideally, we’re looking for:
- A way to make the buttons properly update the variant and images
- Ensuring the correct variant can be selected and stored (e.g. in the cart).
- A solution that works without editing Liquid files (but we’re open to doing that if needed)
Here are some screenshots of the item detail inside the theme: https://postimg.cc/gallery/cZ1NJw2
Any help, tips, or code examples would be highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance, Manu und Jules
Sometimes people or store owners do miss to thoroughly go through the theme and it’s functionality. Not blaming but stuffs happen when doing a business especially when you are about to launch one.
But I am guessing that this could be a bug in the theme code somewhere because changing the images or selecting the variant these are like basic functionalities of any ecommerce store and on that you are using a paid theme which should have had it.
This most probably will need to be debugged, sometimes for issues such as this it’s not just about writing code, the code is there it’s just that there’s some bug which needs to be checked and dealt with.
I am sure you have reached out to the store developers. Please reach out via personal links below for a convenient conversation and collaboration as this will require store access.

can you please share the preview link and password(if any)
I had the exact same issue while developing a store for my client, though I solved it using a paid app called VIM: Variant Image Module.
I recommend to reach out to the theme support as it does not appear to be a native function to the theme (they can confirm this). Fixing it would require access to your theme files as it’s tough to troubleshoot without seeing the code. The correct way to fix this is in the theme files but work arounds might exist. do you mind sharing your store url?
