We have a brick and mortar store using EPOS Now as the POS system. The physical store inventory is synced to Shopify. If I add a single product to the Shopify store, the synced inventory displays correctly. Now I’m creating variants. Each variant has its own unique barcode. I have Inventory Tracked checked for each variant, but it does not update to match the synced inventory from the POS. I have to manually update the variant inventory. Is this normal? Thanks.
The variants exist in EPOS Now as separate products with unique bar codes. For example, let’s say I have a bar codes in EPOS for Shirt, Black, Small and Shirt, Black, Medium. I went into Shopify and created a new product Shirt, with no bar code. I then created variants under this product. Shirt, Black, Small and Shirt, Black, Medium. I then assigned these variants the EPOS bar codes. I guess I’m doing it totally wrong, but would appreciate a push in the right direction. Thanks.
Hi @marctx
This behavior is not normal.
If single products sync but variants do not, the link between the two systems is broken for those specific items. In 90% of cases, this happens because EPOS Now relies on the SKU, not the Barcode, to sync inventory. Even if your barcodes match, if the Shopify Variant SKU field is empty or does not match the EPOS Now “Stock Code” exactly, the system cannot update the stock.
Hope this helps!
@PieLab The variant products sync. In my example Shirt, Black, Medium and Shirt, Black, Large both exist in my Shopify Products and can be tracked by inventory if I create a listing just using that item. I guess I just don’t know how to use them together in a single listing as variants. It sounds like I’m trying to create the variant again using the same barcode when I try to create a listing.
I forgot to tag you in my reply. Please see my followup. Thanks!
@ericjackson6701 I’m not sure why your post was hidden.
What you’re seeing is usually a mapping issue, not just an inventory-sync issue.
As you describled, the variants already exist in EPOS Now as separate products, but in Shopify you created a new product and variants under it. In that setup, matching barcodes would not enough for stock to sync correctly. because might be EPOS is not syncing variants as well with barcodes.
I work on iSmartSync. We handle this by syncing inventory at the actual Shopify variant level, which avoids this kind of mismatch between online and in-store sales.
Only Barcodes should be enough !
So your case is more configuration or integration limitation.
