Hello Shopify Team,
I’m experiencing an issue with how product variants are displayed in my store. Instead of showing a dropdown selector for size and color, Shopify is listing all variants in a long table format, which makes the product page look cluttered and confusing.
Additionally, some variant names appear with strange characters or unnecessary descriptions, likely due to an import issue from my Print on Demand provider.
Steps I’ve Taken So Far:
I checked my product variant settings, and they are structured as Color (e.g., “Coffee”, “Blue”) and Size (e.g., “XS”, “S”, “M”).
I reviewed my theme settings, but I couldn’t find an option to change the variant display format.
I tried manually editing the variant names, but the issue persists.
What I Need Help With:- How can I change the display of variants to use a dropdown selector instead of listing all options?
- Is there a way to bulk-edit variant names to remove unnecessary descriptions?
- Could this be an issue with my Shopify theme, and if so, how can I fix it?
I’d appreciate any guidance on resolving this issue! Let me know if you need any screenshots or further details.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey @SotoQWERTY ,
Hope you’re doing great
Here’s how to fix your variant display issue:
- Go to your Shopify admin panel and click on “Online Store” > “Customize”
- Select the product page you want to edit
- In the theme customizer, locate the “Product Information” or “Product Details” section
- Look for settings related to “Variant Display” or “Product Form”. There should be two key options:
- Quick Order List (currently enabled)
- Variant Picker (what you want to enable)
- Simply uncheck/disable “Quick Order List” and enable “Variant Picker”
This will change your variant display from the current table format to clean dropdown menus for both Size and Color selections, giving your product page a much cleaner and more professional look.
After making these changes, your variants should display as two separate dropdown menus:
- One for Size (XS, S, M, etc.)
- One for Color (Coffee, Blue, etc.)
Feel free to reach out in case you’ve any more questions for me
Cheers!

Hi there
Based on your description, it sounds like there may actually be two separate issues involved.
For the variant display, if your variants are already set up correctly as Color and Size in Shopify, then the long table layout is often controlled by the theme or a third-party integration rather than Shopify’s native variant picker. Most Shopify themes will normally display variants as dropdowns, buttons, or swatches, so it’s worth checking whether your theme includes a product table/block setting or if a POD app has added a custom product form.
For the variant names, if the products were imported from a Print-on-Demand provider, the extra descriptions and unusual characters are often coming directly from the imported variant data. In that case, you may need to clean up the option values either through Shopify’s bulk editor or by reviewing the product data being synced from your POD platform.
If your goal is simply to present the options in a cleaner way, another approach is to use a product options solution such as Easify Custom Product Options. It allows you to display options as Dropdowns, Buttons, Color Swatches, or Image Swatches instead of long variant lists, which can make the product page much easier for customers to navigate when there are many combinations.
At this point, the most helpful information would be:
That will make it much easier to determine whether the issue is coming from the theme, the POD integration, or the product data itself.
