Thanks for your response Sarv, fortunately the Shopify support staff have resolved the issue.
For the benefit of anyone else who might encounter the same thing, it occurred because I was copying and pasting product description from one product to another. Apparently I was also copying and pasting some invisible HTML in the description which caused the issue.
Here is the advice I got to remedy the issue, which worked a treat!

If you’ll encounter the same error in the future, Here’s how to fix this error:
- Open a text editor that removes all formatting. On a PC, you would use the Notepad. On a Mac, TextEdit.
- Open a a product admin that has this problem.
- Copy the formatted text from the description area and paste it into your text editor. This will remove bolding, bullets, and images.
- Back on the product admin, click the <> button to view the description’s code. Delete all of it.
- Click the <> to go back to the formatting editor.
- This is the most important part: Copy the unformatted text from your text editor and paste it into the formatting editor.
- Use the formatting bar to replace any lost formatting and images.
