Good afternoon-- The variation drop down menu and Add to Cart button disappeared from our product pages after I uploaded a new media file. How do I get it back?
Topic summary
Main issue: Variant dropdown and Add to Cart disappeared from product pages after a media upload.
Key finding: The store wasn’t using the theme’s native add-to-cart/variant selector. Instead, it relied on a Shopify Buy Button (embeddable code) placed directly in the product description. That code was missing on the affected product, likely removed accidentally, which caused the controls to vanish.
Resolution: The poster copied the Buy Button code from another product that still had it and pasted it into the affected listings, restoring the variant selector and Add to Cart.
Notes:
- Before/after screenshots were provided and are relevant to understanding the change.
- No broader theme or platform issue was identified; the problem was content/code removal in the product description.
Status: Resolved. Suggested action for others: Reinsert the Buy Button code or switch to the theme’s native functionality.
This is actually very interesting – you’re using Shopify storefront with a paid theme and instead of using theme’s own add to cart functionality you use Buy buttons embedded into product description.
I wonder what is the reason for this…
Looks like the buy button code disappeared from this product description, maybe someone removed it accidentally.
This response was very helpful. This is exactly what I needed to know/learn in order to fix my errors. From here, I was able to copy the code from a product that still had its buy button and fix my listings.
Thank you!
