Here’s a professional and helpful response you can post — it positions you as knowledgeable and approachable (perfect for a Shopify designer/marketer on Fiverr):
Hey Kim! ![]()
That “VFS error: Unable to resolve nonexistent file” usually means that one or more of your theme files were deleted, renamed, or the file path was broken after your recent code edits.
Here are a few things you can try:
-
Check your theme files – Go to Edit Code → make sure all folders (like assets, snippets, sections, and templates) are visible and none are missing or renamed incorrectly.
-
Undo recent changes – If you remember what you last edited, try reverting that change. You can also use the Older versions option in Shopify’s code editor to roll back a file.
-
Re-upload missing files – If a file was accidentally deleted, upload a backup copy (from a downloaded theme file or another working version).
-
Duplicate the theme – If you can’t duplicate or customize, the theme may be corrupted. Try downloading it, then re-upload it as a new theme.
If you’d like, I can take a quick look and help you fix the error safely. I specialize in Shopify theme troubleshooting and customizations.
hi @KimNarvasa That error usually shows up when part of the theme code gets corrupted or when a file reference is missing after recent edits. Since you mentioned you can still open Customize, that means the theme isn’t completely broken — just the code editor part.
Here are a few things you can try:
-
Duplicate from the admin – If the “Duplicate” button isn’t working, try downloading the theme file (Actions → Download theme file) and re-upload it as a new theme. That sometimes resets the editor.
-
Check for missing files – If you recently deleted or renamed any file (like in
assetsorsnippets), the theme might still be referencing it somewhere. That’s often what triggers the “nonexistent file” error. -
Try a clean re-upload – Download your edited theme to your computer, then upload a fresh copy of the original theme from the Theme Store. Once it’s uploaded, reapply your custom changes carefully, one at a time, to find which one caused the issue.
Let me know if this helps, or if you’d need me to explain any part more carefully.
Thank You sir i appreciated
