Visa payment by customer card number ending 0000

Dear all,

I have received 2 orders in the last 2 days from customers which received back for confirmation of the order a mail indicating that the card number in ending with “0000”

It seems rather strange and I was wondering whether this is a scam or something not legit.

Do you have any such experience?

Thanks in advance!

Angelo

Hi,

This is Richard at PageFly - Shopify Advanced Page Builder app.

It’s possible that the orders you received are part of a scam or a genuine mistake. Here are some potential scenarios:

  1. Phishing Scam: The customers might have been tricked into entering their card details on a fake website. The “0000” ending could be a sign that the scammers are testing the card’s validity before using it for fraudulent purchases.
  2. Data Entry Error: The customers might have simply made a mistake when entering their card number. It’s not uncommon for people to accidentally type “0000” instead of the correct last four digits.
  3. Card Issuer Error: In rare cases, the card issuer might have made an error and sent the customer a confirmation email with incorrect card details.

What to Do

To protect yourself and your customers, I recommend the following:

  1. Verify Customer Information: Double-check the customer’s contact information and shipping address to ensure they match the details on the order.
  2. Contact the Customer: Reach out to the customers directly to confirm the order and verify the card number. Ask them if they received any suspicious emails or messages.
  3. Monitor Your Account: Keep a close eye on your account for any unusual activity, such as unauthorized charges or refunds.
  4. Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect a scam, report it to the appropriate authorities and inform your payment processor.’

Hoping my solution helps you solve your problem.

Best regards,
