Visual merchandise each market independently

Topic summary

A Shopify merchant is frustrated with the limitations of Shopify Markets for international selling. While the platform handles currencies, languages, shipping rates, and product exclusions well, it falls short in merchandising capabilities.

Key Issues:

  • Many third-party apps (like “Back in Stock” notifications and “Free Shipping Progress Bars”) don’t work properly across multiple markets and fulfillment locations
  • Collections cannot be merchandised differently per market, which is problematic since buying trends and seasons vary significantly by region (e.g., New York vs. Madrid, London vs. Sydney)
  • Current workaround requires managing multiple separate sites, which is inefficient

Impact:
The merchant believes they’re losing sales due to inability to optimize product displays based on regional bestsellers and seasonal differences.

Suggested Solution:
One respondent recommended the “Smart Search & Filter” app by Mezereon, which offers per-segment product visibility and filtering controls that may help with market-specific merchandising without requiring multiple sites.

We use Shopify Markets to sell internationally, and in some ways its fantastic to be able to set currencies, languages, shipping rates, product exclusions and fulfilment locations… however when it comes to merchandising it all feels very restricted.

For example, a website that sells to one location from one location will be able to utilise various apps such as “Back in stock” notifications and “Free Shipping Progress Bars” to help capture sales and boost AOV. However this is impossible if you sell from multiple locations to multiple locations. A minor frustration, but you get the gist.

My biggest frustration however is that you cannot VM the collections per market. For example, in fashion, buying trends are very different in New York to that of Madrid, and the seasons are complete opposites in London to Sydney. So the only solution is to have multiple, local versions of your site. This would then allow you to merchandise your products for each market based on bestsellers or seasons, but then you have mutiple sites to manage.

This means that Shopify Markets only does half a job. I can customise some of the content, I can localise with languages and currencies, but I can not merchandise my products efficiently or effectively by market. I am certain I am losing sales because of this. Does anyone else feel the same, and does anyone have any solutions?

That’s a really good point about the limitations of Shopify Markets when it comes to merchandising! It’s frustrating when you’re trying to optimize for different regional trends and seasons but can’t easily customize the collection order or visibility per market.

You might want to check out our app, Smart Search & Filter (by Mezereon) It provides functionality that lets you control product visibility and filtering on a per-segment basis, which can help with the kind of merchandising customization you’re looking for without needing multiple sites.

It might not solve every single one of the multi-location/multi-market app issues you mentioned, but it directly addresses the merchandising frustration.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any questions about the app!
