Hope you’re all doing great. I have an idea to convert my already establish site into drop shipper store. My website is http://shoesknowledge.com/ and currently I’m publishing information related to work boots and some other different type of boots.
Is it good decision or not? And what are the pros and cons of doing that. Does it effect my website speed performance and other type of issue or it is work smoothly after converting into drop shipper store.
What you are suggest me ? Will I convert this site or start brand new shopify store for this purpose
Just prefacing my answer with: I’m a web developer so I don’t know how you’d coordinate fulfillment and manufacturing for a dropshipping shoe store. I can comment on the tech side.
It’s difficult to comment on whether this is a good decision or not without knowing your appetite for risk. I’ve heard both Harley and Tobi (Shopify execs) say that now is the best time to take the risk to start a business. The cost to get started is at an all-time low and, with a platform like Shopify, you can get up and running quickly.
I think your best bet is to start with a small experiment. I wouldn’t sweat the details of your domains and old/new content too much. Open up a Shopify store on something like https://shop.shoesknowledge.com/ or https://store.shoesknowledge.com/. You can do this without touching your existing website. Get a web developer to create a new DNS record for one of these subdomains and point it to your Shopify store. You won’t affect any of your traffic, performance or SEO on your existing website. You can list products and start cross-promoting from your existing site to see if your audience is interested.
At a later date, you can entertain optimizations and solve problems related to changing the website around. I’d imagine doing something like https://shoesknowledge.com/ as your store and then https://shoesknowledge.com/blog or https://blog.shoesknowledge.com/ would make more sense. That way your primary source of traffic will go to your store and then you can link out to your blog for credibility. This will require a lot of work to orchestrate all the redirects and make sure you don’t get punished for moving your content. If Google thinks the pages are missing, they may lower your ranking. But, I think these are future problems for when your dropshipping business is successful.
No problem! Best of luck. If you do create a store, please take some time to checkout my app Incentivize. We do in-cart upsell, cross sells and personalized recommendations. We even have a company related to shoes using it today: Senkels. Here’s a little demo of the slide out cart.
