Wanted to try Debutify but it won't install (I know it's not supported here)

After experimenting with a bunch of different themes I narrowed it down to Impulse, and I wanted to try Debutify. Unfortunately, I can’t get Debutify to install. My Windows PC is only a few months old so I don’t think that’s the problem. I finally decided that the install was broken. I waited a month and tried again, but I’m having the same issues.

Sometimes the theme.zip file downloads and everything looks fine until I try to Customize it. Then I get a “Failed to load page” error. 1. Page is redirecting to an unsupported URL. 2. Page failed to load due to an error.

I will delete everything and try to install the theme again, but then I get an error: Zip does not contain a valid theme: missing template “layout/theme.liquid” (When I unzip the file and look in layouts, there is no theme.liquid.)

Any suggestions?

Greetings, @FunnishLLC .

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!

If your theme is missing the theme.liquid file, then it’s possible that the version of Debutify you’re using is out-of-date or there is an issue with the compressed file. While using an unsupported theme isn’t something that I would recommend, the theme.liquid file is essential for our themes to run properly and/or to be customized through the Theme editor. If you prefer using Debutify, then I’d recommend first checking with the theme developer about the missing file or whether they have any other versions available for you to download.

That being said, if the theme developer isn’t able to help you or there aren’t any other versions available for you to try out, then you may need to consider hiring a developer to help you with third-party/custom themes. If you’re not comfortable working with coding languages (eg. HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Liquid) and you need help finding a developer for your store, then I’d encourage taking a look at our directory of certified developers on Shopify Experts.

I’d love to hear more about your business and your thoughts on the Impulse theme! What kinds of products are you selling? Did the Impulse theme not meet your needs and why?

<< This was a post about some serious forum issues… but going into Incognito mode resolved the problem, so it must be a caching issue and I should be able to fix that.>>

Thanks for your kind reply, Elias. I’m going to give up on Debutify. I have had trouble reaching anyone there for help, and even their demo page isn’t working for me.

I’m making Impulse work for me, but it has been a bit of a struggle. This is my first time using Shopify, so I suspect that I would be having the same issues with any theme. :slightly_smiling_face:

My store is a bit hard to explain. It’s a single product store but I also want to sell “programs” that drive the device I created. Impulse is good with large inventories so I bought it. But now I’m thinking it would make more sense to do a membership. Customers pay a small monthy fee to get access to all the programs. (I’ve found a membership app that should work.)

But now I’m kind of a single product store, and I want to focus on selling my brand. That isn’t really what Impulse was designed to do. But as I said, I’m making it work.

Thanks again, Elias.
