Warnings about selling brands through Shopify store

Hi. I am trying to get my Shopify store off the ground. I have read lots of cautions relative to not selling branded items due to a number of possible negative consequences.

Yet, aren’t all products branded? They all have a company that manufactured them, and I notice a company symbol of some kind on most items. Is that not considered a brand? Does that mean I need to sign an agreement to sell nearly every product in my store?

I would appreciate some clarification on this topic. I believe that I’m misunderstanding something.

I believe what you have heard relates to a periodic request from Shopify’s banking partners to verify if you have authorization to sell branded products. Just went through this myself and it was pretty straightforward, we simply had to submit copies of invoices for a few of our vendors (brands) and submit a form stating we only sell branded products we have the right to sell. We only buy directly from the brands we represent, so no big issue. Might be different if you don’t have a direct relationship with your branded products.
