Website Design Question for an Artist

Hello, I’m looking for some guidance and I thought this might be the right spot to start.

I’m brand new to building a website so forgive me if my question has a obvious answer.

I’m trying to build a website that focuses more on displaying my artwork, like an online Gallery. I’ve found it tough to be able to just display images of my work without having to add some sort of feature of selling around my images. Is there a good template Shopify offers to create more of a “portfolio” rather then just an online store?

I would certainly like to have the option to sell on my store but right now I really just want to create a space where I can display my work freely without having to involve pricing on each piece.

Does this make sense? I know Shopify mainly revolves around online stores and purchasing. But for myself, I would much rather create a site that simply can just showcase my work.

Thank you to anyone for the help :slightly_smiling_face:

Absolutely, your question makes perfect sense. While Shopify is primarily an e-commerce platform, it can also be adapted to create a portfolio-style website to showcase your artwork. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Choose the Right Theme: Shopify has several themes that are designed to showcase products in a more visual, gallery-like format. Themes like Flow, Motion, and Impulse are particularly good for this.

  2. Customize Your Theme: Once you’ve chosen a theme, you can customize it to suit your needs. You can remove pricing and “Add to Cart” buttons from your product pages. This can usually be done in the theme settings, but it may require some basic coding in the Shopify Liquid template language.

  3. Use Apps: There are several apps available in the Shopify App Store that can help you create a portfolio-style website. Apps like “Portfolio App” and “Lookbook App” allow you to create stunning visual galleries of your work.

  4. Create a Blog: Shopify also allows you to create a blog. You can use this feature to showcase your artwork, discuss your creative process, and engage with your audience.

  5. Add a Custom Page: You can create a custom page on your Shopify site to display your artwork. This page can be designed in any way you like, and you can add images, text, and other elements to showcase your work.

Alternatively you can you portfolio.adobe.com to showcase your work.

Hello, I just want to say thank you so much for the detailed response. This was super helpful information and the last bit about Adobe Portfolio was the key for me. I already pay for Photoshop so my portfolio was free and I can link this to my Shopify store. So great and exactly what I was looking for.

Cheers and thank you!
