What apps are merchants using to promote repeat purchases ??

Topic summary

A developer proposes building a Shopify app to boost repeat purchases by incentivizing customers (store credit, discount/voucher codes) to return and complete abandoned carts (carts left without checkout).

Feedback highlights market saturation: many loyalty/discount apps already address this, so differentiation is essential to gain adoption.

Referenced alternatives for research/benchmarking:

  • Loox (reviews), Smile.io (rewards/loyalty), Yotpo Loyalty & Rewards (formerly Swell), Rise.ai (gift cards & loyalty)
  • Frequently Bought Together (cross‑sell) and Bold Discounts (promotions)

A novel app idea is suggested: shared inventory across product variants (variants = options like size/color of the same product). When one variant sells, the app syncs stock by reducing quantities of the other variants automatically. Example: three variants at 10 units each; sell one, others update to 9.

Current status: no decision or concrete next steps. The thread encourages the developer to research gaps and pursue unique functionality (e.g., variant inventory sync) rather than duplicating existing loyalty/discount tools. Discussion remains open.

I am planning to build an app that is solely focussed on promoting repeat purchases by incentivizing like giving a store credit for customers or discount/voucher codes so that the customer comes back to their abandoned cart and makes a purchase.

Any thoughts and suggestions on who thinks this could helpful ?

These kinds of apps already exist (and there are a lot of them). I’d recommend focusing on something new (a functionality that isn’t covered by an existing app) so that you’re not having to compete as hard with other apps for users.

Hello @omkarvaranasi ,

You can take a look at these apps: Shopify reviews app by Loox, Smile: Rewards & Loyalty app by Smile.io, Yotpo Loyalty & Rewards by Swell Rewards, Rise: Gift Cards & Loyalty by Rise.ai, Frequently Bought Together by Code Black Beltand, Bold Discounts ‑ The Sale App by BOLD and so on.

Just to add on to this, here’s an idea for an app that doesn’t seem to exist yet (or at the very least, isn’t labelled/named easy enough to find):

Allow for variants to share inventories. Some kind of sync app, where when a variant is sold, it automatically deducts inventory from other variants.

Ex. You could have a product with 3 variants – each with inventories set to “10” … but then when one of the variants is purchased, the app automatically updates the inventories for the other 2 variants to be “9”.
