I’m trying to get better analytics on Abandon Carts , so I looked in Analytics and I’ve Exported Abandon Card transactions to review them. I feel like Shopify could do a much better job of helping to classify some of the most obvious reasons behind Abandon Cards.
For example:
- Transaction not approved because of insufficient funds on the card
- Transaction not approved because of wrong CVV or Postal Code
- … other types of technical reasons that a cart may have been abandoned involuntarily.
This word help to separate out transactions that didn’t complete due to Risk Management choices or technical issues where the customer was not permitted to complete their transaction.
It would be very handy to have a couple of data points, like:
- What was the last step that the customer completed successfully - e.g. did they leave before or after they entered payment details.
- How long in seconds did the customer have the cart open before they abandoned (perhaps indicating “think time” to contemplate the purchase.
- It might even be handy to have some inferred guesses (e.g. If Shipping costs are non-zero or, in our case, we aren’t going to offer free-shipping in carts under $99, so sometimes for a small item shipping costs are more than the product itself - that would be a pretty good guess for the abandon.)
I’m not the expert on all the likely reasons for Abandons, but I feel that a new report in Analytics, or gathering some of these other data points might help stores better understand and segment their abandon cart causes.
