When I pull the sales by product report and keep all sale line types, there’s a type called unknown. When I look at all the records for that order name, there are several products ordered all at the same time with sale line type called product and 1 row at the same time with sale line type unknown. The $ amount of the unknown line is negative not the same as the positive $ amount for any combination of the product lines. Can anyone explain what this unknown row is?
Hey, @rileynic ! Welcome to Shopify Community!
The unknown sale item type that appears on the Sales by product report are usually order adjustments our reports take into account to balance out discrepancies. An example of this would be when you refund an order but don’t restock the product. Another example would be when you refund the customer a different amount from what the restocked product is worth (you refund $15 back to the customer, but restock a product worth $30). It’s great that you’re making use of the reports in your Shopify admin. If you haven’t thought of utilizing them to boost your sales, I recommend doing so as they hold a lot of valuable data that can help you formulate an effective marketing strategy. There are specific reports that you can look at for this which are discussed in this article.
