What drives weekly product decisions in Shopify stores?

Hi Shopify store owners:

How do you decide which products to push each week?

For example:

  • When do you decide to discount a product?

  • When do you feature a product more prominently on your homepage?

  • Have you ever realized later that you missed a sales opportunity? What happened?

  • What tools do you use today to analyze sales and customer behavior?

I’m curious how other store owners make these decisions and what challenges you run into.

@deenajacob

I understand, it’s very common question.. it’s about the product selection to right time and grab the sale opportunity..

1- Simply select the hero product and list on home banner.

2- About the Offer, keep eye on competitors and best Time to offer discounts festive event like ( father day, 4th July etc )

3- Be active on festive shopping season

4- keep eye on shopify reporting dashboard and keep analysis’s the customer source and utilities accordingly.

5- about the product’s behaviour, you can prefer the shop.app , but you have manage analysis ourself and understand the customer demand according the shopping behaviour.

Recommend, things are not fixed.. keep analysis the customer behaviour and chose the product and plan marketing accordingly..

Hopefully you got the solution…

HI @dreamhigh .

Hope you are having a fantastic day.

Mostly, store owners use this:

Discount, when something has not sold in 30 to 60 days, or to clear the old stock.

Homepage features, higher margin products, items low on stock, or what’s trending in ads.

Missing opportunities often a product on social media before they are noticed.

Tools, Shopify owns analytics, Google Analytics, Kalaviyo for email data, and sometimes apps like TripleWhale .

Thank you so much for this detailed answer! This is really helpful.

You mentioned having to “manage analysis yourself” and “keep an eye on the dashboard” — that really resonated with me.

Can I ask: when you’re doing this manual analysis, what’s the most time-consuming or frustrating part? Is there something you wish the dashboard just told you directly, without you having to dig for it?

I ask because I’m researching ways to make this process more automatic and actionable for store owners. Your real experience is gold.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much for this clear breakdown — that’s incredibly helpful.

You mentioned using rules like “discount after 30-60 days” and watching what’s trending in ads. That really makes sense.

One thing caught my attention: you said missing opportunities when a product takes off on social media before you notice. That sounds frustrating. How do you usually catch that now — just manual checking, or is there a tool that alerts you?

I’m researching how to make this kind of detection more automatic and proactive for store owners. Your perspective is super valuable.

Thanks again for sharing!

Hello there @dreamhigh
As a Shopify Partner I work with many merchants who rely on a combination of data and merchandising calendar. Weekly review under Shopify Analytics - best products, conversion rate, R.I.P, and margin.

Discounts are typically triggered by holding inventory, strong traffic no weak conversion, or seasonal timing. Homepage features rotate to high margin, trending, or high-converting products in good supply.

The lost oportunities tend to come from not scaling early winners quickly enough, solved by a weekly merchanting cadence.
Tools used: Shopify Analytics, product reports, GA4 and heatmap tools.

Thank you so much for this detailed insight — hearing from a Shopify Partner is incredibly valuable.

You mentioned “lost opportunities from not scaling early winners quickly enough” — this really resonates. In your experience, how do you currently spot those “early winners”? Is it purely from the weekly review, or is there a specific signal you wish a tool could alert you to automatically?
Also, you use multiple tools (Shopify Analytics, GA4, heatmaps). What’s the one piece of insight you wish all these tools combined could tell you, but currently none of them do?

I’m researching ways to make this detection faster and more proactive. Your perspective would be gold.

Thanks again!:folded_hands:
