What happens to rejected inventory in a transfer?

I had a staff member mistakenly reject all of the products in a transfer. When I check the origin destination, it is not showing the inventory there, it is no longer showing as incoming and the adjustment history only shows the products as pending.

So where does the rejected inventory quantities go?

Hi, @tod_west !

Welcome to Shopify Community.

I’d be glad to help you out and provide some insight today. When inventory transfers are completed, either via rejecting or receiving the inventory, this state becomes ‘locked’ in a sense and is considered complete.

Therefore, you won’t expect to see the inventory return to it’s original location, and it remains permanently removed. For added context, the rejection state is typically used if inventory were lost, damaged or even stolen. Hence, by not sending it back to the original location automatically more accuracy is added.

In your scenario this was a mistake and the best way to resolve it is to reset inventory or manually adjust at your locations and complete a new inventory transfer. This should resolve the issue going forward and hopefully explain how rejected inventory quantities are handled.

Warm regards,
