What if storefront had a salesperson?

Hi all,

Physical stores convert better because of salespeople.

We tried adding AI assistant that recommends products and helps users and give them a option to try on product virtually .

Feels like adding salesperson to store.

Anyone else experimenting here?

Concept makes sense, but this probably won’t move conversion as much as it feels like it should. Most stores get more lift from tightening product pages, pricing, reviews, and load speed before adding a “salesperson” layer.

Where it could help is higher consideration products or stores with a lot of variants, but for most shops it ends up being incremental. I’d test something lightweight first (guided quiz or simple chat tied to product data) and see if it actually changes behavior before investing more.

Hi @Futurelabs. Based on my experience with eCommerce migrations, many clients share this same question. We’ve run A/B tests to see if having on-site customer service improves conversions. The answer is yes, though it depends entirely on what you’re selling.

Customers rarely contact support for items that don’t require much consultation, such as consumer goods or clothing that feature clear size guides and instructions. However, there are nuances, in fashion, female customers tend to ask about sizing more than male customers.

For us, customer service is incredibly valuable for advising clients on packages and benefits. Ultimately, having a salesperson or support rep on the storefront definitely enhances the customer experience.

That said, I’m unsure if AI can perform as well as a human representative, because the specific information customers are looking for may not be in the AI’s training data.

Hope this helps
