What is the best app for bundling and kitting items?

Topic summary

Seeking a bundling/kitting app to manage kits and single SKUs (stock keeping units) with accurate inventory. Multiple solutions and approaches were shared.

Two bundle approaches:

  • Theme-driven bundles: shoppers pick items on a custom page; items added as separate order lines and a discount is applied.
  • SKU-based bundles (bundles as normal products): components tracked in the background; orders can be converted to component lines post-purchase for accurate stock.

Apps recommended:

  • Bundable ($18.50/month, 14-day trial) and Bundle Builder ($25/month, 30-day trial).
  • Bundleup: focuses on discount-code compatibility (bundle shown as one line), component-based inventory sync, and order line replacement for fulfillment.
  • Bundle Kit: builds on standard products; auto bundle inventory from component/variant stock.
  • Bundler – Product Bundles: mix-and-match features.
  • Simple Bundles: sell child SKUs independently or only within bundles; auto adjusts parent inventory; mix-and-match within Shopify’s 100-variant limit. Images and a screen recording were provided to show storefront/admin behavior.

Key clarification: Manual bundle pricing (not equal to sum of parts) is supported by multiple apps.

Status: No single “best” chosen; actionable options provided; discussion remains open.

Hello,

I am looking for reccos for the best bundling/kitting app to help manage items we provide as single SKUs as well as in kits. We are having a hard time managing inventory for the kits and need a solution asap. It seems there are a lot of apps out there and was wondering what people strongly recommend.

Hey, @cbaker27

Happy to lend a hand with some recommendations. Below are a couple of popular bundling apps that I think will suit your needs. In addition, I’ve shared links to their app demo and their support team for your convenience.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hi

There are 2 different types of bundle apps.

One type is creating custom pages in your theme and letting your buyers select different items as part of a bundle before check out. These are then added as individual order lines and a discount code applied.

Other type of bundler apps are ones like our bundleup app which are basically normal products which you then describe as a bundle or use variation options to add ability for buyers to select different sets or combinations. You track the components of the bundle in the background.

There are 3 main function of our app:

1. Discount Code Compatible

As the bundle is shown as one order line in checkout we don’t need to use any discount codes to adjust price. This lets the buyer add a discount code themselves that applies to whole order.

2. Inventory Management

Our app lets you connect up products to correct SKUs and we then update the bundle inventory based on the component stock level.

3. Order Fulfilment

When you sell one of the variations the master stock level won’t reduce automatically. What our app does is update the order post purchase by replacing the order line with the Single SKU as order line which then reduces that stock. This then feeds into point 1 above where it updates all linked variants.

Hi @cbaker27

This is Jun from Bundle Kit.

You may want to consider using our app. Bundle Kit bundles are built on top of normal Shopify products.

We have step-by-step instructions here: https://help.bundlekit.io/creating-a-multi-pack-bundle

The bundle inventory is automatically set based on the available inventories of the bundle item(s), including the inventories of the variants.

Proper quantity will also be taken out of the inventory of each bundle that is being purchased.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for the suggestion! Are you able to manually enter the price of the bundle? Our bundles are not the total price of the individually sold items.

With Bundleup you set up products as you would normally in Shopify admin so you set the price of the bundle product. We manage the components in the background so we can update the inventory of the bundle based on component inventory stock levels and/or update an order for a bundle into its components after it sells.

Hey, @cbaker27

Yes that is correct. When you set your bundles, you can treat it as it’s own individual product with it’s own unique price. It does not have to be an accumulation cost of all the individual products that make up the bundle.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Hi @cbaker27

Yes, you can manually enter the price. You can check our article here: https://help.bundlekit.io/overriding-bundle-price

A good recommendation for a bundling app I have in mind is the Bundler- Product Bundles App. This app has numerous features which I believe you would find beneficial which includes matching and mixing already created bundles when you need to do so. You can try it here

Hello @cbaker27 ,

Simple Bundles is definitely the solution you’re looking for! The app gives you the choice to either sell your individual SKUs independently, or you can choose to ensure that the child SKUs can only be sold as part of the bundle. You don’t have to worry about the inventory as well because Simple Bundles adjust the inventory of the parent bundle based on the items this means that our app will recalibrate the inventory based on the quantity of the bundle that can be sold, given the current inventory of its components.

What’s the number of product variant combinations you aim to showcase on a single product page? If it falls within Shopify’s limit of 100 variants, you can certainly accomplish this using Simple Bundles with our mix-and-match bundle configuration.

To start, you can establish a basic product on Shopify that includes either your bundle variants or the individual products that constitute the bundle.

A quick screen recording here shows how it should look on the storefront. https://share.getcloudapp.com/Qwuwx9L9

On your Shopify admin, you’ll see the bundle along with its individual SKUs added to the order after the order is created. If you have any questions, let us know, or reply to this thread if you need more help starting your bundle! Thanks!
