What is the best way to get barcodes for a beginner? Is it GS1 or do I need to keep researching?

Hello all,

I am thinking about using a 3PL, and realized they require barcodes. After doing a little digging, it looks like it is good practice to start as early as possible if you are serious about building a brand.

My question is, do I just go to GS1 and purchase my barcodes, or are there tips and tricks or things to watch out for about barcodes that did not come up in my quick google/reddit search. Many thanks in advance.

Hey Frank!

If you plan on selling retail, you should definitely go the GS1 route.

However, if you aren’t sure at this point, I would recommend using a site like this to generate free barcodes for your 3PL to use. You can always switch down the road if you do decide to go retail.
