Hi We are Tineco team and we have shopify store. When we process the refund, we noticed that some orders is failed to be refunded due to the time limit. The message is " You are over the time limit to perform a refund on this transaction." Could you kindly help us check the exact time limit period (perhaps six months?)
Hi, @sophie00 !
Rio here from the Shopify Community team.
That’s a great question. The maximum allotted time for issuing a refund is 120 days. This can also depend on your customer’s bank’s ability to process refunds for orders after a while. You can read more about that here.
In this case, I’d suggest letting the customer know as well as giving them the option of receiving their refund in a gift card. This will ensure that the customer also purchases again from your site. Learn how to issue a gift card here.
Hope that helps!
Hi @Rio
We have the same problem. Order is from April and we now need to refund it, but the time limit is over.
We now have no other option but refund it through PayPal manually. But of course, then I need to set this order manually to “refunded” in shopify. How can I do that?
Thank you!
@Trevor can you maybe help me out here? Thank you!
If its passed the time limit, then you wouldn’t be able to update the Shopify admin to reflect that a refund took place. This is a limitation of the backend, but something that has been raised with our developers.
In the meantime, its best to take note of these occurrences and make the necessary adjustments in your books when doing your accounting.
We would also like to request configurable return periods to allow for greater than 120 days.
I would also like to request a setting for refunds past 120 days.
I would also like to request a setting for refunds past 120 days. We have an order over the time limit and apparently, we need to mail a check. Is there a better way? Thank you!
Joe
