After the terrible change back in 2023, I didn’t think the admin home page could get worse but here we are.
The 2026 summer update obfuscates important stats behind a very thin slider at the top of the page. Doing away with the 2023 widgets everyone hated but making it even harder to see key data about our businesses.
In place of data are info cards with irrelevant suggestions about features of the platform and AI driven action items.
What is the point of this?
Yeah, it’s the same pattern every couple of years, Shopify rebuilds the admin home and somehow each redesign manages to bury the actual business data further under cards promoting their own features and AI “action items” nobody asked for.
The practical fix while they keep playing with the layout: stop using the home page as your starting point at all. Go straight to Analytics, Dashboards (or Analytics, Reports), where every real number still lives, sales, sessions, conversion, AOV, none of it tucked behind a slider, and bookmark that URL as your actual homepage.

I can sense the frustration. The admin dashboard has been moving over to recommendation cards, but this isn’t something you need to rely on for core performance tracking. A lot of merchants skip the home view altogether and head over straight to Analytics and Reports, where you can pin your most important metrics, sales, conversion rate and AOV. You can create custom reports and dashboards, so essential KPIs are just one click away. For daily transactions processing, the Orders and Analytics panels are generally more accurate than the home feed when it comes to making decisions.
What the AI is this response?
Anyway what 90% of actually store owners want is to open the app, see instantly if there is anything they need to look at, then go about tending the next fire.
Shopify needs a Chief Merchant Officer and has for a very long time. So many simple changes that could be useful to real merchants including stopping very bad UX cruft.
