Hello everyone!
I’ve decided finally to use Shopify for my store! I have some questions that I couldn’t find a proper/straight answer and I hope you guys can help me to do this ‘small’ but scary step!
-
Are the themes from Shopify better than the ones on Themeforest?
-
Buying a theme and setting everything up is quite easy, right? Anything I should read/take in count before doing it? Something like ‘creating a child theme’ or something basic?
-
Are there any SUPER IMPORTANT plugins that doesn’t come with the theme? I mean, I guess that if I buy a theme, I will be able to create pages with some kind of “Elementor”/page builder? Shipping/payment plugins…
-
I have some coding skills since I’ve been working building websites for quite some time, but I’m not a dev, I’m more a ‘marketing guy’. Do I need a developer?
Hope you can help me
Hi, @bnnnnbnnnn ,
Welcome to Shopify! Happy to have you join our Community!
Please refer to the following in regards to your questions you posted:
- I cannot speak regarding Themeforest but Shopify does have its own Theme Store. The store consists of Shopify-made themes that come with their own Help Documents to guide you through its functions and features. You can also reach out to our Support Team as well for any guidance regarding these themes. We also have third-party themes from trusted developers outside of Shopify as well. These themes also have their developers’ teams listed for support so you will have guidance no matter what.
- Setting these themes up are pretty straight forward. I have attached a couple resources to help you during this initial set-up stage: Adding Themes To Your Store and Everything About Theme Support.
- Shopify equips all stores with the most basic and essential features like shipping, payments, and pages. Pretty much all you will need is provided as some of the core features however if your store happens to need something more specific, feel free to contact us for a solution/workaround or you can also check out our app store for additional integrations that our core features cannot accomplish for you.
- I think the fact that you have some coding experience on top of your past experience with WooCommerce, I am not too worried on how you would fare on the platform. Once you become familiar with Shopify, I’m confident that how it works will come easy as it is very user-friendly. If not, you have our Support team as well as this Community at your disposal for any clarifications.
- For extra assistance however, you have the option to hire a Shopify Expert for any and everything that you may need regarding your store. You can also qualify for 60 minutes of design time from our team if you are using a Shopify-made theme on top of being on a paid plan.
I know that this is quite a bit of information so definitely let me know if you have further questions but I am confident that once you go over these resources, you’ll be in a very informed position to get things started! Welcome to the Shopify again!

Shopify’s admin theme editor is not like elementor you would need an external page builder app/service.
It’s important you evaluate platforms with a feature audit , or it’s themes, before switching to understand these differences.
Are there any SUPER IMPORTANT plugins
This is highly dependent on your business needs, and questions like this lead to vague general answers.

Platform is irrelevant woocommerce of shopify, this is a business choice do you want to spend your time working on your business or learning to be a developer.
If the former delegate, if the latter shopify has theme docs but it can be a long process to get up to speed when working in a new space.
