What's going wrong with our product collections on the website?

Hello,

I just want answers for what is happening on our end with our products. But just a background, we asked some Web Dev to build our Shopify website and now we are quite lost of what is happening at the back end.

  1. There are a lot of collections at the back end that we think we don’t need anymore. For instance, we have ‘Best Selling Product’ which is at the back end but not in the front end.

  2. Since the previous web dev already set our collection into ‘auto’ when we add product, one product would have 5 or more than collections, which is confusing. Can we just start doing manual collection for the previous products? And if we’re going to fix these auto collection products that are already posted, where do we start?

  3. Again, since our products are automatically added on the collection that we don’t want. When we check on the front end, the product was not at the right collection. We still have to add the name of the collection in the tag before it will be added to the collection that we want. How can we fix these? Do tags really matter?

Hi Marketingap,

Based on our experience, only use Automated Collection (https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/collections/automated-collections/auto-create). With automated collection, use tags to manage which products go to the correct collection. The manual collection might work, but in the long run, it is very hard to maintain. Hope this helps. One time pain but long-term ease of mind.
