Hello, I hope this post finds everyone well. I’ll try and put as much detail into this as possible so that everyone fully understands what I’m attempting to do.
I’m selling clothing that is based around US States (All 50 + Washington DC) and each has its own specific design but they all utilize the same overall template, i.e small patch on the front, big patch on the back. I’m trying to determine the best way to organize these products though and it’s started to give me some trouble. I had built out a concept of a really cool state selector tool that the user can access from the main menu/navigation of the site but just haven’t linked it yet. I was just informed about Shopify’s variant limit which created more complications for this.
My original plan was to simply create a product such as “Long Sleeve Shirt” and then customize the variant selectors so that the user could select a size and then prompt them with a button to select their state from a map if they haven’t already selected one, but it seems that it may not be possible.
I’m thinking that my next best bet would be to create collections based on the state and have the user select a state [rior to shopping for specific items, but I feel that jeopardizes the usability of the online store, don’t most people want to get straight to the type of item they are buying? And then wouldn’t collections be used up already and I would have to use something like tags to separate mens, womens, and accessories.
I have a background in development, but more SaaS and web-app related tools. I’m willing to learn something new in terms of custom solutions but just don’t quite have that deep understanding of Shopify yet. Any help/advice is appreciated.
