What's the difference between primary and third party domains?

Hi, I have few questions regarding domains.

What is the difference between Primary Domain and Third Party Domain? Why do both of them show connected?

My Primary Domain recently expired and I renewed yesterday. It shows it’s connected but the SSL certificate is not available. How do I add SSL certificate again?

Hi @SachinPatel ,

Great question! Your primary domain is the domain name that’s displayed in the address bar while customers browse your online store. By default, your primary domain uses the format your-store-name.myshopify.com when you sign up for Shopify - until you change that for a custom domain, which you clearly have done.

Whenever you buy a domain it comes with a subdomain too, which is what is shown here:

The fact that your SSL is not yet active on your primary domain could be because it takes up to 48 hours for the certificate to propagate. Have you ensured that all your domain records are correct?
