What's your experience with consignment apps for retail stores?

Topic summary

A retail gift store owner with 150 consignment vendors shares experiences testing multiple consignment management apps integrated with Shopify POS. The original poster identifies a key gap: most apps are designed for resale/used goods shops rather than stores that restock consigned products alongside owned inventory.

Apps Discussed:

  • Vendor Consignment (Visceral): Currently recommended as best option - affordable, good customer service, effective for restocking consignment models
  • Ricochet & Aravenda (formerly Resale Global): Not recommended due to limited Shopify integration and data sync issues causing duplicate vendor payments
  • ConsignMint: Newer app praised by users for vendor self-entry capability and seamless Shopify integration
  • Circle-Hand & Consignify: Recently launched alternatives with AI features and consignor portals

Common Pain Points:

  • Vendor onboarding and inventory upload processes create confusion
  • Need for vendor self-service product entry without sacrificing quality control
  • QuickBooks integration for proper COGS tracking
  • Bulk markdown and product expiry management
  • Spreadsheet-based tracking becomes unsustainable at scale

Multiple store owners express interest in solutions allowing vendor self-entry while maintaining control over product presentation. The discussion remains active with app developers joining to offer demos and trials.

I would love to get a demo of your app, is there a way we can set this up? I can be emailed at bryan@talkinbaseball.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hi Bryan, I just responded to your email. Thanks!

Hello! Sorry I missed this message. Visceral Consignment offers demos I believe… contact them directly. And beyond that, feel free to reach out to me about any reference questions.

Hi all. I’ve just released a new shopify app to manage consignment, called Consignify. I built this for my wife’s second-hand shop, and she’s been using it for about 8 months. We decided others might like it as well, so I’ve put a good deal of effort into polishing, hardening, and documenting it, and it’s now available on the App Store.

It’s brand new and I’d love to get some early users (aside from our own store) to try it and give feedback on what works well, and what’s needed to make it as useful as possible for your workflows. I’ve got it set with a generous 60 day trial, and I can help with data migration for the first users (I’ll update the docs as I go to help others do the same). I can also offer discounts for the first year to users willing to give feedback and work with me to improve the app. I’d love to make Consignify the gold standard for consignment on Shopify!

I would just add that Consignify should work well for shops that sell new products as well as second hand. Products are managed in the usual Shopify admin – Consignify just allows for consignor information to be attached to products (in Shopify), and the sales and commissions tracked. Restocking, inventory, variant management, and all the usual Shopify stuff doesn’t change at all. @BrennaCGCo – I’m two years late but this might be along the lines of what you were looking for? If not, I’m open to your thoughts on what might be missing for shops like yours.
