What’s your process for finding reliable suppliers?
I’m very interested in this topic as well. Curious if anyone else has ideas for sourcing for fashion supplies and accessory materials. Thx
The ol’ trial and error. Many trusts have been broken by the self-proclaimed “reliable” suppliers. Always take a human-centered approach: befriend them, see how they treat their employees and those around them. There are many non-verbal cues we can observe and assess that will be our consideration before signing anything.
Wondering if you have any suggestions on this?
Never heard from anyone on this topic. I have a couple of suppliers that I’m trying to use but would be nice to have more options. Thx
For me it usually comes down to testing small batches and building trust step by step. A few things I look for:
-
Responsiveness: If a supplier is slow to reply before you even place an order, they’ll probably be worse after. Quick and clear communication is a good sign.
-
Order samples: I always order samples first, not just to check product quality but also to see how fast shipping is and how items are packed.
-
Check consistency: A supplier might nail one order but fail the next. I place a few small test orders before I feel comfortable scaling.
-
Reviews and networks: Reading what other sellers say (in FB groups, Reddit, etc.) Referrals from other dropshippers are gold.
-
Backup plan: I don’t rely on a single supplier. Having 2 - 3 options for your best sellers reduces risk if one suddenly goes out of stock.
But these just might be the “ideal process”. In fact, when I recruiting 1 new supplier, the hardest thing for me is to get contact and response from them. Some suppliers who are “real traditional suppliers”, only focus in provide and sourcing products, not active on social, or many info on their websites of them even outdate. Can’t reach to the right one. Besides, 1 of our dedicated suppliers is by meeting them in person and keep relationship as friend with them.
