When I set up Migrating to Google Analytics 4 what will happen to universal analytics?
Will universal analytics break and will I be able to roll back changes if something goes wrong?
I did not find information on this in the documentation and releases of Shopify
Migrating to Google Analytics 4 will not break your Universal Analytics tracking. Both Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 can coexist on your website and can track data independently. However, keep in mind that data collected by Universal Analytics will not be automatically available in Google Analytics 4.
If you are currently using Universal Analytics, you can continue to use it alongside Google Analytics 4 until you are ready to fully transition to Google Analytics 4. You can also choose to send data to both Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 by setting up dual tracking.
Regarding rolling back changes, it is always recommended to backup your analytics data before making any major changes. This way, if something goes wrong during the migration process, you can easily roll back to your previous setup. It is also important to test the new tracking setup thoroughly before implementing it on your live website to minimize the risk of issues.
While Shopify does not have specific documentation on this topic, Google Analytics provides detailed documentation and guides on how to migrate from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4.
I tried the GA4 solution to migrate and I find out that Universal Analytics still works.
