When will my domain's SSL be verified after changing it?

Hey there,

I recently changed my domain from the stock shopify domain to a different one (ending with .com) which I bought on shopify. I changed the domain yesterday at 6 PM and I checked just now at 9:40 PM with a site that is mostly blank with some weird symbols. When will my SSL be verified?

Hi, @wheresdaniil .

Typically, 48 hours will need to be given for domain propagation and certificates to provision. If you navigate to your Shopify admin > Settings > Domains, do you see a banner with a warning or error message in regards to your domain? Is it giving you the SSL Pending message?

If you’re still seeing that message on your end, this tells us that the SSL on your domain isn’t ready to be active yet. Pending SSLs should, however, naturally transition to provisioned once the domain is pointing to the correct records. I’ve just checked your domain’s DNS records via who.is here, and can see that the correct records have been inputted in order to point your domain to Shopify. So from here, I encourage you to continue waiting for the full 48-hour period for the domain to fully propagate.

If you’re still seeing the SSL Pending message on your domain settings after the 48-hour period however, please get in touch with our live support team so that we can investigate your domain in more detail from our end. If need be, we can also attempt to manually provision the domain certificate from our end.

In saying all of this however, the formatting of your website may also have something to do with the theme that you’re using. Can you try previewing your store from a different theme, to see if that’ll look any different?

You can do this by installing a fresh copy of a Shopify theme via Online store > Themes, scroll down to the Popular free themes section, and select a theme to add to your library. From there, click on the Ellipsis (…) next to the newly added theme > Preview, and you can then view your website to see if it is looking like how it’s meant to. If the issue doesn’t persist on the fresh theme, chances are a third-party app or any recent code change to your store’s theme may be interfering with how your website is meant to be shown. For further assistance in troubleshooting this, you can also contact our live support team so that we can securely access your account to conduct a more in-depth investigation.

It has officially been 48 hours and it still says pending. Can you check my DNS again? I don’t know what to do. Maybe it takes 72 hours? Why is it taking so long? I want to run Facebook ads but can’t because my shop looks weird with all those strange shapes and symbols.

Thanks for the update, @wheresdaniil .

I won’t be able to check via the Community Forums here, as our team would require secure access to your account in order to check your store’s domain information from our end.

So from here, can you please navigate to the Help Center here for me? Once in the Help Center, you can ask the chat assistant to contact support and proceed to follow the prompts in order to be connected with one of our Support Advisors. We can then proceed to securely access your account from there in order to check your domain’s status from our end.
