When will Norway get Shopify Payments?

Topic summary

Norwegian Shopify merchants are requesting access to Shopify Payments, which has been unavailable in Norway for years despite being offered in neighboring countries like Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

Current workarounds being used:

  • Running multiple separate stores (one for NOK, others for EUR/USD) to serve international customers
  • Using third-party payment gateways like Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, and Authorize.net

Key merchant concerns:

  • Inability to efficiently sell in multiple currencies from a single store
  • Missing out on international market opportunities
  • Cannot fully utilize Shopify POS without Shopify Payments
  • Time and cost inefficiencies from managing multiple storefronts

Shopify’s response:
Support staff acknowledge the feedback and state they’re forwarding feature requests to developers, but provide no timeline or confirmation that Shopify Payments will come to Norway. They direct merchants to monitor the Shopify Changelog for updates.

Potential solution mentioned:
A third-party app called “Easy Pie for Shopify” reportedly enables multi-currency payments through Stripe with fixed exchange rates, though this remains a workaround rather than native Shopify Payments integration.

The discussion remains unresolved with no official commitment from Shopify.

When will Shopify Payments come to Norway?

People have been waiting for this for years, and we’re really missing out on the international market. The only possible solution I see now is to keep NOK as the store currency and then create a second store which uses euro as its store currency to also be able to sell to people who use euros as their main currency. This is such a tiresome workaround and will only work so-so. Could you please implement Shopify Payments for us Norwegian Shopify store owners?

Hi, @erri1 .

Welcome to the Shopify Community, and thanks for sharing your question.

I can definitely understand the importance of having Shopify Payments available in Norway.

While I’m not able to provide a timeline or if/when Shopify Payments will be available, I’ve gone ahead to submit your valued feedback to our developers. I encourage you to keep our Shopify Changelog handy to stay up to date with new features that roll out to the platform.

In the meantime, I recommend using our Online Payment Gateways and Payment Provider Integrations resource to search by country. Below, I’ll share some third-party payment providers available in Norway.

Are you actively working on getting Shopify Payments to Norway?

Please answer this simple question so I can act accordingly.

Hi
We are soon ready with a new store using Shopify and we will be selling worldwide. Our company is based in Norway, but we need the features to be able to choose curreny etc. for “any” country so Shopify Payments is essential for us. We hope it will be available for Norwegian international partners very soon.

Hello, @UNOVITA !

Thanks for joining the discussion.

I will submit this feedback to our internal team to be reviewed as a possible future feature for us. As our platform is constantly growing and improving, our team love to get feedback from our merchants on what features/edits they need to improve their workflow or businesses.

So once I submit this as a feature request on your behalf, our team can review the request. So hopefully, this can be something that is available in the future. As mentioned above, you can keep an eye on our Shopify Changelog at this link for any new updates surrounding this.

Thanks very much for this!

I fully support the assertions made earlier. The availability of Shopify Payments in Norway would significantly benefit us, particularly because we utilize a customized Headless UI through the Storefront API. In this setup, plugins offer limited assistance. Instead, we require a solution integrated directly into the Shopify backend to effectively handle our needs.

I totally agree, it is incredibly frustrating that Norwegian Merchants are not allowed to join the “Shopify Payment Party”. We have been running 2 separate stores for 7 years now just to offer checkout in EUR and USD. Such a waste of time of money… Let us in!

We are doing the same thing now as a norwegian company and need to be able to sell worldwide in local currencies

HI Maz,

I think Shopify should offer Shopify Payments for the Norwegian market - especially when Sweden and Denmark have it available for a while now.
This not only will help us to reach international markets in more ease but will also allow us to use Shopify POS and truly enjoy the advantage Shopify can offer. We find it very frustrating that Shopify won’t open it up - Especially since Stripe is working in the Norwegian market and do offer their solution - Since Shopify Payments is built on Stripe So why Shopify Can’t?

If you have a Stripe account, with Easy,Pie for Shopify, you can accept payments Cards, Klarna, MobilePay, iDEAL, SEPA and many payment methods via Stripe.

It also supports multi currency. So, for example: it allows you to accept payments in EUR while your default currency is NOK, using fixed exchange rates for new markets (countries) that you will add from the Markets settings.

I’m curious as to why Sweden, Denmark and Finland have the shopify payments and why Norway does not. Is this because they are part of the EU, and the rules are different for Norway?

I would also love the ability to have one price for Norway and one for the rest of the world, like when I make the listing I can put in the price for the Norwegians and one for the rest of the world (or more if that is needed). That wold be awesome  :ok_hand: My main market is the US, so my store is set to $ USD, but I also want to make it easy for the Norwegians to shop with clear and nice pricing that I decide, and not decided by weird currency rates.

Thats my two cents on the matter  So please please please give us Shopify Payments  :ok_hand:

The only available solution is found in the previous post. It uses fixed exchange rate, so you determine these exchange rates manually, and it also rounds the prices if you want.
