What is the update on the 1099 form?

Merchants seeking 2023 1099-K forms report they can’t find them and are concerned about tax deadlines. Shopify says it obtained a filing/delivery extension and expects delivery by end of Feb 2024; a support chat suggested early March. Some merchants confirmed receipt near 2/29, while others still hadn’t received theirs.
Availability and access: forms will trigger an email notification and appear in Finances → Payouts → Documents.
Filing without the form: Shopify states you can file taxes without a 1099-K using Shopify reports; any later corrections to the 1099-K can be backdated.
How to approximate the 1099-K: export Finances → Payouts → Transactions; include ~10 days on either side of 2023; sort by “Available on” and keep only 2023; filter Type=Charge; sum “Amount” for gross total and count rows for number of transactions. A “1099-K transactions” export may be available if you’ve received one previously.
Shop Pay Installments (SPI): Split Pay transactions are included on the 1099-K. Interest-bearing SPI transactions are excluded and handled by a third-party; no separate form is expected.
Status: ongoing distribution; notable merchant frustration; no full resolution yet.
